Charity Work - Working Horse Trust at Eridge

Working Horse Trust at Eridge

The Working Horse Trust is a registered charity (registered charity No 327512), run entirely by volunteers, and is devoted to safeguarding the future of our Heavy Working Horse breeds. The only organisation of its kind, the Trust is also an environmental group and we aim to translate our love of Heavy Horses and concern for the countryside into action that protects the future of both - hence our motto - Harnessing Horse Power to Help the Environment.

What Does the Trust Do? The Trust has several aims as far as Heavy Horses are concerned. Breeding is obviously of crucial importance, particularly for the Suffolk. The Trust has already bred a number of Ardennes and now had two Suffolk mares from which it can breed. Education and information are also key aspects of the Trust's work and much effort is currently being expended on planning education programmes for children and students and on preparing informative leaflets and posters. The Trust also runs training courses for would-be Heavy Horse handlers. We aim to make our horses as accessible as possible by taking them out and about to local shows and events and by inviting the public in to meet them. We hope that by doing this and publicising our work more people will take an active interest in the future of Heavy Horses. Increasingly we are undertaking work for outside organisations - other conservation groups and local councils for example.
